Our Aim
Generating renewable energy to reduce carbon emissions.
Our story
Through an EU-funded scheme, Cambridgeshire County Council used the national RE:fit programme to secure £20 million of investment for energy-saving retrofits and renewable energy projects. As part of the scope of this project, they delivered a large 12 MW solar park in Soham, to the northeast of Cambridge.
The project was supported by a successful bid in the Department of Energy and Climate Change’s Contracts for Difference (CfD) Renewable Auction; Cambridgeshire County Council was the only local authority and one of only two solar farms to be successful under CFD.
The solar farm began generating power in December 2016 and generates £350,000 per annum to fund council services while helping the council to achieve its aim of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050.
